Adobe have announced that the latest version of Photoshop, CS6 is now in beta and available for free download. Yes the interface has gone dark and yes it can edit video too.

Announced today, Adobe have posted a beta version of Photoshop CS6 online. The first thing that strikes you is that the interface has gone dark, but there are new features and a lot more under the hood.

We were very lucky to see a demo of the new Photoshop a few weeks ago and apart from the new interface colour (which can be reset to the old light grey) the main thing that struck us was how responsive the app was when dealing with large images. A large liquify brush showed the results instantly rather than having to wait for the effect to catch up with the cursor. This is because the new Photoshop uses the Mercury Graphics Engine or in other words it lets the GPU do the hard work.

“Photoshop CS6 will be a milestone release that pushes the boundaries of imaging innovation with incredible speed and performance,” said Winston Hendrickson, vice president products, Creative Media Solutions, Adobe. “We couldn’t wait to share this beta of Photoshop CS6 with our customers and are looking forward to hearing from them and seeing the ways they are incorporating the beta into their daily creative workflows.” read more...
