Adobe Ups Creative Cloud and Adobe Anywhere

Creative COW by Debra Kaufman

Adobe has updated its Creative Cloud with 150 new features, adding video tools in Premiere Pro, After Effects, SpeedGrade, Prelude, Media Encoder and Story. Also new are updates to Adobe Anywhere for video, the high-level collaborative toolset for virtual teams to shoot, log, edit, share and finish video productions. Creative Cloud is Adobe's step into SaaS (software as a service), a subscription model that offers download and installation of applications as they become available.

These new updates are slated to go live on October 15. Current Creative Cloud members will receive the updates as part of their existing membership, and special promotional pricing is available to existing customers who own CS3 or later. Pricing plans are available here.

"We're now fully into our subscription model," says Bill Roberts, director of video product management, Adobe. " We can deliver technology at a faster pace that otherwise would wait until spring to release."

"Our business model is it fits well with what's going on in the industry," he continues. "Since NAB, there have been five new camera formats and we've been working to support them. I'm always reminded about the cyclical nature of Hollywood – you're busy and then you're not – and with what we're offering, you can scale up and down. We make the connected world our platform."

Roberts reports that the main tools haven't changed, but have advanced. "We're offering some new exciting tools for video pros," he says. "Publishing is more important, so creatives can easily share their work. Our efforts help them share ideas at the structural level, the composition itself. The Creative Cloud is on your desktop, always with you, not a destination. It's your anchor point."

Key new updates include a new Direct Link Color Pipeline between Adobe Premiere Pro CC and SpeedGrade CC to move multi-track timelines back and forth, open Adobe Premiere Pro CC sequences in SpeedGrade quickly, and see the results as effects (managed by the Lumetri Deep Color Engine) in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. read more...
