Avid Media Composer Extensions Bring Editorial Workflows Directly Into the Timeline

Avid is expanding the Media Composer ecosystem with the introduction of Media Composer Extensions in version 2025.12. Previously known as the Media Composer Panel SDK, the new Extensions framework creates a more integrated environment where editorial, review, metadata, and workflow tools operate directly inside Media Composer instead of across disconnected external systems.

The new dedicated Extensions drop-down gives editors easier access to connected tools that interact directly with projects, clips, bins, sequences, and markers. By bringing workflows closer to the timeline, Media Composer reduces friction caused by constant exports, duplicate files, disconnected notes, and fragmented metadata management. The goal is to keep creative teams focused inside the editorial environment where decisions are actually being made.

Extensions also open the door for more advanced capabilities, including AI-assisted workflows, integrated review and approvals, smarter archiving, remote collaboration, and connected asset management. As more developers build tools for the ecosystem, Media Composer is evolving from a standalone editing platform into a centralized creative workflow hub for film, television, sports, and broadcast production.
