BirdDog announces Public Beta - Silicon 2
PUBLIC BETA – SILICON 2
Please note this firmware release is offered as a public beta and is not a recommended update for anyone using their BirdDog camera for production purposes. It is however possible to downgrade this beta firmware to the current shipping firmware should you wish to move back after testing.
We are pleased to offer this major update as a public beta preview.
Silicon 2 is the next generation processing engine for BirdDog cameras that can be loaded onto your compatible camera to add wider format support.
In this initial release it includes the following formats:
- NDI | HX2®
- NDI | HX3®
- SRT
This initial release is compatible with the following cameras:
- P100
- P110
- P120
- PF120
- P200
- P240
- A200 G2
- A300 G2
It is possible for your camera to send both FULL NDI® stream simultaneously to the High Efficiency stream (NDI HX/SRT) unlocking some incredible new production workflows. We encourage you mavericks to have a go, play around with this firmware and start to dream up some new workflows that it unlocks – like Ultra low latency/High quality NDI for your main production while streaming NDI | HX® to a PLAY in another building on your campus… or sending the live stream from your A300 pointing at your goldfish tank over SRT to a receiver on another continent…
There are some things to note – be warned, this is beta, it will have bugs – some of them are known… sometimes when switching Video formats you may need to reboot the camera, when changing the video compression settings you need to restart the stream. We are offering this as a courtesy to interested people who want to be involved with the very latest, with no implied warranty of the functions in this firmware or official support – again this firmware is not recommended for live use. Please consult the manual included and report back any issues you find in a courteous and constructive manner.
Some things of note:
The current compression profiles (Low, Medium, High and Ultra) are not locked down and will be fine-tuned further
- Low and Medium can be used over SRT or NDI | HX2®
- High and Ultra are not recommended for SRT
- Ultra is NDI | HX3®
- You can always configure your own custom setup if you like, although be warned if you get the settings wrong it can give you some funky results
- We are looking forward to this being rolled into main firmware shortly and expanding the camera model support to include the 4K cameras. Items still to be added in subsequent beta builds:
- RTSP streaming protocol
- Cloud Connect integration with BirdDog Cloud.
