BirdDog O4 Outdoor PTZ Camera Powers Aragon TV's Live Production in Spain
Aragon TV put the BirdDog O4 outdoor PTZ camera to work during the Fiestas del Angel in Teruel, Spain, demonstrating how one camera can support multiple IP video workflows for local and remote broadcast production. Operating alongside traditional, operator-managed broadcast cameras, the BirdDog O4 delivered video to two production locations simultaneously: an outside broadcast (OB) van in Teruel and the Aragon TV studio in Zaragoza. The production ran 24 hours a day over several days without issues, showcasing the flexibility of multi-protocol IP video in demanding live broadcast environments.
One Camera, Multiple IP Video Protocols
The BirdDog O4 supports more than NDI, giving broadcasters multiple options for video, audio, connectivity, and camera control. During the Aragon TV production, NDI delivered video, control, and tally to the local OB van for multicamera production, while SRT provided reliable video delivery to the remote studio in Zaragoza, where the camera could also be controlled remotely. Additional supported technologies include BirdDog Connect for global connectivity and remote control, Dante AV-H for video in Dante AV environments, and Dante Audio for network-based audio workflows.
Integrating BirdDog O4 Into an Existing Broadcast Workflow
The production also demonstrated how the BirdDog O4 can fit into an established broadcast environment. Its color controls allowed operators to match the O4 image to existing broadcast cameras, helping create a consistent look across the production. The BirdDog KBD controller was tested, and CyanView compatibility was verified to support Aragon TV's existing camera control environment. For connectivity, fiber ran from the OB vehicle to a remote PoE++ switch, with Ethernet carrying camera power, video, and control to the O4 cameras. The resulting workflow allowed BirdDog O4 feeds to be mixed directly with operator-managed broadcast cameras in the OB van while simultaneously delivering a separate feed to the remote studio.
BirdDog O4: Flexible Outdoor PTZ Cameras for Broadcast Production
The Aragon TV deployment demonstrates how multi-protocol outdoor PTZ cameras can expand live production capabilities across multiple locations. By combining NDI, SRT, Dante AV-H, Dante Audio, and BirdDog Connect, the BirdDog O4 provides broadcasters with flexible options for local production, remote video delivery, and camera control without limiting workflows to a single IP video protocol.
