Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20.2 Adds ProRes RAW Support

Blackmagic Design has announced ProRes RAW support for DaVinci Resolve 20.2 and the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, ending years of industry anticipation. The update, released in September 2025, addresses one of the most requested features in professional post-production.

Since Apple introduced ProRes RAW in 2018, the codec has gained widespread adoption in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, and various camera systems. However, DaVinci Resolve - one of the industry's leading color grading platforms - remained without support, forcing filmmakers to use workarounds or switch software.

The new update enables native import, playback, and grading of ProRes RAW files in Resolve, including footage from Apple's iPhone 17 Pro. Pocket Cinema Camera 4K users can now record directly in ProRes RAW, while the Blackmagic Camera app and Video Assist 12G will receive the feature soon.

This move enhances workflow flexibility for productions mixing Blackmagic cameras with iPhones, drones, and third-party recorders. While Blackmagic's own BRAW format remains their flagship codec, adding ProRes RAW support acknowledges the industry's need for open, compatible workflows across different systems.
