Avid Media Composer | Software
Avid has now released the latest version (MC 8.0) in all the new licensing options. The key differentiators between the various flavors of licensing is the included 3rd party and Avid software.
New Avid editors have two choices on how they can purchase Media Composer. You can still own the software by purchasing a perpetual license at $1,250. This higher price includes you first year annual support contract as well. So if you purchase today, you would be eligible for any and all upgrades released for the next 12 months.
The new Avid Subscription plan is a fantastic value. For $569 you don't just get Avid Media Composer, you also get the Symphony option! The 3rd party software is much better as well. You also get a year of Avid support which entitles you to all upgrades and updates.
Finally, Avid has announced a new Floating License plan. You can purchase these as a pack of 20 or 50 licenses. Each pack also includes floating license server software which allows you to manage and deploy your seats as you wish. With a floating license server you can install Avid on as many machines as you like throughout your organization.

Boris RED 5.5 is a plug-in application for high-end text, transitions, and advanced composites inside Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony, and Avid NewsCutter editing software. Boris RED 5.5 is a successor to Avid FX, previously bundled with all Avid editing solutions.
Boris RED 5.5 Feature Highlights:
- RT (real-time) Filters and Transitions. Improved performance and new integration with Avid software allow for near real-time preview of titles, transitions, and effects.
- Full Compatibility with Previous Avid FX Projects. Open legacy Media Composer projects in Media Composer/Symphony 8 can edit Avid FX titles and effects with Boris RED 5.5 for Avid.
- Improved Text Tool Uniformity. The text tool in the Boris FX toolbar is added to Mac platforms to match the previous Windows toolbar. Text can now be typed and manipulated directly in the Boris RED preview panel.
- Improved Text Window Look And Feel. Numeric sidebars for accurate text sizing have been added for Windows users.
- Avid Media Composer 8, Symphony 8, and NewsCutter Compatibility. Starting with version 5.5, Boris RED will support all future versions of Avid editing and finishing applications.

Boris Continuum Complete 9 AVX
Building on the strengths of previous BCC releases, version 9 adds over 30 new filters and transitions in key areas such as Image Restoration, Film, Stylize, Keying and Compositing, Lights, and Perspective. All BCC effects and presets can now be viewed in the new FX Browser window, which is integrated into every BCC filter or transition.
Boris Continuum Complete gives editors and visual artists the most comprehensive VFX plug-in suite ever created. An expansive 200+ filter collection includes 3D Objects, 3D particle effects, image restoration tools, lens flares and lights, keys and mattes, warp and perspective effects, and blurs, glows, and cinematic effects. All filters take advantage of either Open CL, NVIDIA CUDA, multi-threading or OpenGL hardware acceleration for an interactive effects design experience.
Over 1,000 professionally designed presets are included free with every installation of BCC. All presets can be viewed in the new FX Browser window. Custom presets can be saved and shared among teams within the same organization or across the globe. Both static and animated BCC presets are supported in After Effects and Avid platforms. BCC is the only plug-in collection that allows easy VFX migration between Adobe, Avid, and Apple video editing software via Boris Transfer, which keeps parameters and key frame information intact.

 Avid Media Composer Floating Licensing for Schools/Universities
For large-scale educational institutions, Avid now offers floating licensing, enabling you to purchase “packs” of shared licenses to deploy across your entire facility using a single system ID. This enables multiple editors to use Media Composer simultaneously on any number of workstations when licenses are available (not actively in use). Once you close your Media Composer application, the license is automatically returned to the pool of available licenses on the licensing server.
