DV Mag review: Vegas 5

by Frank Capria November 2004 Great performance from an inexpensive package. The best audio tools among NLEs at any price range. Unfortunately, significant shortcomings keep Vegas 5 from inserting itself into the workflows at larger studios. Vegas 5 I last reviewed Vegas Video when it was at version 3.0 and made by Sonic Foundry. Since then, Sony Vegas 5 has had two major upgrades, a name change, and a new owner. Much has changed in the NLE world as well. Software-only NLEs have really come of age with Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Xpress Pro proving themselves worthy of their pro designations. All three have their strengths and weaknesses, but I would be comfortable working with any of them under deadline pressure. Would I be able to say the same about Vegas 5? read more...
