An interview from the 2016 PhotoPlus Expo in New York City with Greg Crosby of G-Technology. From storing, transferring, editing and distributing content, G-Technology makes the workflow simpler, better and faster. G-Technology's high-performance portable and desktop drives, flexible transfer/edit solutions and fast RAID systems are all built for professional content creation environments where performance and reliability are paramount. In this interview Greg gives us a preview of two new portable G-DRIVE's, upgraded to utilize the USB Type-C ports, the G-DRIVE mobile USB-C & G-DRIVE slim SSD USB-C.
The G-Technology G-DRIVE mobile USB-C is a portable 7200 RPM hard drive features a USB Type-C port geared towards users looking for speeds up to 136MB/s, a sleek new design and Time Machine compatibility. Inside its thin, colorful beveled aluminum case is a 1TB high-performance 7200 RPM hard drive compatible with any system featuring USB-C or USB 3.0.
Enclosed in aluminum, the lightweight and portable G-DRIVE slim SSD USB-C from G-Technology allows you to access data quickly and efficiently using solid-state drive technology and USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity. This SSD is available in two storage capacities of 500GB & 1TB, allowing you to store a variety of files, including movies, photos, music, documents, and more.
Using its 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 2, data can be transferred at speeds up to 540 MB/s. While this drive has been built with a reversible USB Type-C connector, meaning that the USB Type-C cable can be inserted either right-side up or upside down, it may also be used on systems with Thunderbolt 3, since USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 utilize the same interface.
Additionally, this drive is compatible with USB 3.0 at speeds up to 5 Gb/s and USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, while the included USB Type-C to Type-A cable allows compatibility with systems equipped with USB Type-A ports.
The G-DRIVE slim comes formatted for Mac, but is also compatible with Windows via a simple reformat. The drive is bus powered through its USB cable, meaning that no other external power sources are required for operation, and its plug-and-play compatibility means that no drivers are required for use. Available in space gray and silver, the portable G-DRIVE slim SSD USB-C is the perfect companion for your MacBook.
