What are the major new features in Edius Pro 6.5?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 offers several new workflow innovations, such as 4K, 2K, and free size project support with RED native file support, editing 3D stereoscopic video, and AVCHD exporter to name just a few. The editing engine has been tuned for better realtime performance, and the enhanced Proxy Mode opens up exciting possibilities for entirely new editing workflows. EDIUS Pro 6.5 also supports alpha channel export, making for a smarter workflow between EDIUS and compositing software.

What kind of training is available for Edius 6.5?

What’s the new activation system?
A new online activation system is used instead of a USB dongle-based protection system for the new versions of EDIUS.

How many licenses does EDIUS Pro 6.5 have?
EDIUS Elite allows one user to install the EDIUS Pro 6.5 software on up to two computers, but using EDIUS Pro 6.5 simultaneously is not allowed. One user can install EDIUS Pro 6.5 to a desktop system, and to an additional notebook PC for field editing. If you need to install EDIUS Pro 6.5 on another system, you can deactivate the current license and reactivate on a new PC. For details, please also refer to the End User License Agreement (EULA).

Can I install Edius 6.5 and Edius 6 on the same system?
No! Do not install EDIUS Pro 6.5 on a computer that already has EDIUS 6.0x installed. Doing so will automatically uninstall your current version of EDIUS.

Edius 6.5 Hardware and Software Support

What third-party software is included in the full version EDIUS Pro 6.5 package?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 does not include any third-party software. A detailed list of third-party software packages available for EDIUS Pro 6.5 will be available on the Grass Valley website.

Do the third-party plug-ins I am currently using with EDIUS 6.0 work with EDIUS Pro 6.5?
No, third-party plug-ins for EDIUS 6.0 will not work with EDIUS Pro 6.5. We will announce details on third party plug-ins for EDIUS Pro 6.5 on our website. Update: Boris FX, RED & Graffiti updates for Edius 6.5 are now available!

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support TitleMotion Pro?
No. TitleMotion Pro, which was included in EDIUS 6.0 and earlier versions, cannot be installed into EDIUS Pro 6.5.

EDIUS Pro 6.5 supports the following hardware:

  • EDIUS NX/SP


Can I install EDIUS Pro 6.5 in Windows Vista or Windows XP?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 only supports Windows 7 (64-bit or 32-bit). Windows Vista and XP are not supported.


Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support Windows 8?
No, the current version of EDIUS Pro 6.5 does not support Windows 8. We are planning a future update to support Windows 8.

Do you have plans for EDIUS Pro 6.5 native 64-bit support?
Currently, there are no plans to release a native 64-bit version of EDIUS Pro 6.5.

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support Ivy Bridge architecture?
Yes, EDIUS Pro 6.5 supports Ivy Bridge architecture. We are continuously working to support the latest PC architecture to get more better performance. Please visit our website or contact your regional support for the latest information.

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support the Macintosh platform?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 works on Windows 7 running on Parallels Desktop for Mac. Configuration instructions for Parallels Desktop are available on our website.

Edius 6.5 CODEC, File & Project support

What is the project compatibility between EDIUS Pro 6.5 and EDIUS 6.0x?
Project files created in EDIUS 6.0x can be loaded into EDIUS Pro 6.5. Project files created in EDIUS Pro 6.5 can be loaded into EDIUS 6.0x, with the exception of the 2D/3D picture-in-picture effect. In this case, please use the Layouter function instead of the 2D/3D PinP effect.


What File-based Workflows does Edius 6.5 support?
Perfect for file-based workflows, EDIUS offers real-time, multi-track, mixed-format editing, compositing, chromakeying, titling, and timeline output capabilities. In addition to the standard formats supported by the EDIUS family of NLEs, EDIUS supports P2 DVCPRO, AVC-Intra, XDCAM, Ikegami GF, RED, Canon’s XF format, and EOS movie format. It also supports capturing from tape devices such as DV and HDV.

Does Edius 6.5 support Mixed Forma Editing?
YES! Edius 6.5 gives you Exceptional Mixed Format Editing! Featuring unrivaled real-time video transcoding technology, EDIUS converts between HD and SD resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates—all in real time. You can edit in HD and place 4:3 SD video, or mix NTSC and PAL sources, or combine them all into projects in other resolutions and frame rates without wasting a single moment on conversion or rendering.

Can I edit 3D footage with Edius 6.5?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 boasts a comprehensive 3D workflow, complete with 3D stereoscopic editing tools and new 3D support across its editing peripherals. The full family of 3D-compatible Grass Valley editing peripherals—such as the STORM™ 3G and STORM 3G Elite editing hardware (with stereoscopic 3D I/O through a single 3G SDI source and/or dual 3G SDI signals)—are now all supported from the EDIUS timeline. EDIUS software and hardware supports all of the most common stereoscopic modes—including the side-by-side, top & bottom, and line-by-line display methods.

What’s different between the new Grass Valley HQ/HQX codec compared with the old playback codec?
The new Grass Valley HQ/HQX codec now provides encoding as well as decoding of HQ/HQX AVI or MOV
(QuickTime) files in Windows 7 and Mac OS X (10.7.2 or later).

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support the source setting of RED (.R3D)?
No, EDIUS Pro 6.5 does not support the source setting of RED (.R3D) files.

Which features of AVCHD 2.0 are supported in EDIUS Pro 6.5?
EDIUS Pro 6.5 supports the following features of AVCHD 2.0:

  • 1080/50/60 footage for import, edit, and export.
  • Importing AVCHD 3D as editing source material (exportand 3D authoring are not supported).

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support the creation of 3D titles in stereoscopic editing mode?
Yes, QuickTitler can create 3D title clips. Some third-party titling software may also support this (please contact the
software manufacturer regarding details).

Does EDIUS Pro 6.5 support RAW file conversion?
For RAW format files, EDIUS Pro 6.5 does not support conversions. Also, you may need to install specific codecs for importing RAW format files. EDIUS supports Windows Imaging Component for this function and may not include codecs for specific cameras.

Does the loudness meter have volume adjust functions?
No, the loudness meter only measures the loudness value of a particular clip or the timeline. You can adjust the audio volume level later on the timeline, using the audio adjustment functions.

You can Crossgrade from any video editing software from Apple, Avid, Adobe, Sony, or Pinnacle to Grass Valley EDIUS 6.5 for less than $400! All you need to qualify for the competitive crossgrade is to email us a screenshot of the "About" page from your qualifying software that shows the product name, version and serial number.

I currently own EDIUS Neo 3. Is there a new version of Neo?
A new version of Neo is not available at this time.

What’s the difference between EDIUS Pro 6.5 and EDIUS Elite?
EDIUS® Elite includes K2 and Grass Valley™ STRATUS™ connectivity, and provides additional features for broadcast users:

  • Clip and sequence interoperability with Grass Valley STRATUS
  • K2 Clip/K2 Program import/export
  • K2 Clip capture for direct recording and editing with a K2 SAN
  • SimulEdit capture for recording shared by multiple editors
  • Audio bitstream pass-through (Dolby-E/AC3)
