New Features in EDIUS Version 6.5 Strengthen Grass Valley's "Edit Anything" Reputation
San Francisco, Calif. February 24, 2012 — Due to its advanced codec, multiformat file support and unparalleled speed, the Grass Valley™ EDIUS® high-definition (HD), nonlinear video editing software is quickly becoming one of the dominant solutions among editors working in the digital news and professional video production industries. At NAB 2012 Grass Valley will demonstrate the latest version (EDIUS v.6.5), with a comprehensive 3D editing workflow and native support for raw footage captured with digital cinematography cameras from RED Digital.
"The Grass Valley EDIUS system continues to increase market share, due to its growing reputation as a fast, reliable, 'edit anything' editing solution," said Charlie Dunn, Executive Vice President of Products for Grass Valley. "As the market has demanded new features to accommodate new file-based formats and even 3D production, we have kept pace and want to ensure our users that we are committed to the platform and will continue to add new improvements and the most critical features as they become available."
Grass Valley is also making its renowned intermediate codec technology freely available to other applications. As well as the PC-based HQ/HQX codecs, a QuickTime version of Grass Valley's HQ and 10-bit HQX codec (for Windows and Mac platforms), will be available for free download.
The new EDIUS software boasts a comprehensive 3D workflow, complete with 3D stereoscopic editing tools and new 3D support across its editing peripherals. The full family of 3D-compatible Grass Valley editing peripherals—such as the STORM 3G 3D and STORM 3G Elite 3D accelerator cards (with stereoscopic 3D I/O through a single 3G SDI source and/or dual 3G SDI signals)—are now all supported from the EDIUS timeline. EDIUS software and hardware supports all of the most common stereoscopic modes—including the Side-by-Side, Top & Bottom and Line-by-Line display methods.
EDIUS 6.5 also incorporates a new Flash exporter, many improvements to the Layouter tool, native image stabilization, built-in Loudness Meter and closed caption/audio bit stream (Dolby-E, AC-3) pass-through support.
A special systemized EDIUS version, based on EDIUS 6.5, will take full advantage of the proxy files created and stored on the Grass Valley K2 Summit 3G server, enabling users to develop even tighter integration with the Grass Valley STRATUS media workflow application framework.
With a simple software upgrade, every Grass Valley K2 Summit production client and K2 Solo HD/SD server can now be used as a 3D production server for 3D recording or replay, a 2X or 3X Super Slo-Mo recording device, or as a server for recording from 2-6 simultaneous camera angles with at least one channel for playback. The systemized EDIUS version will allow users to directly access the K2 contents and edit it while recording, and also directly output back to K2 for playback.
Pricing and Availability
The new EDIUS 6.5 software will begin shipping in June 2012 for a list price of $699. Existing EDIUS 6 users can upgrade to the new version for $299. Details of price and availability of the system version will be announced at a later date.
