videography Videography By Oliver Peters It's been two years since the introduction of HDV, a low-cost high-definition solution designed to attract consumer- and prosumer-level videographers. JVC was the first in the HDV consortium (which includes Sony, Sharp and Canon as well as JVC) to release an HDV camera. Now, two years after JVC's introduction of the single-CCD JY-HD10U at NAB 2003, only JVC and Sony are shipping HDV camcorder models. I spent a lot of time looking at HDV at this year's NAB show. With regard to HDV footage, beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. While there was some excellent HDV footage, there were also HDV clips that looked no better than bumped up VHS. I found Sony's HVR-Z1U camera to produce very impressive images in its native 1080i mode. I can easily see it as the star of local newsgathering and reality TV programming. read more...
