A life-sized version of a Hot Wheels® orange track set defied gravity with a first-of-its-kind two-driver challenge.

On June 30th at the 2012 X Game Los Angeles, two drivers for Team Hot Wheels™ set a Guinness World Records® title for successfully racing through a 60-foot-tall double vertical loop at X Games Los Angeles 2012. The Team Hot Wheels™ Double Loop Dare, a life-sized version of a Hot Wheels® orange track set, defied gravity with a first-of-its-kind two-driver challenge.

Video editor Jeff Tober and the team at Bandito Brothers, including Lance Holte and Mike “Mouse” McCoy, were lucky to be a part of the extraordinary event, filming the stunt and then editing the footage in less than three hours for posting on HotWheels.com and YouTube. Shooting and editing same-day meant the team needed the cameras and editing equipment to work flawlessly. To accomplish this task, they used RED EPIC cameras, a screaming fast HP Z820 RED edition workstation with RED Rocket acceleration cards and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 software.

Tober, a long time Avid and Final Cut Pro editor, switched to Adobe Premiere Pro for the project. The real-time playback and editing capabilities in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 gave the team more creative options because they were able to preserve all the glorious quality of the RED EPIC high-resolution footage. The hardware/software combination also gave them the ability to quickly try things out without losing visual quality.

The tapeless support for RED formats and blazing fast performance made Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 the only tool that would let them accomplish the project in such a short timeframe. Tober was able to directly drop digital footage onto the Adobe Premiere Pro timeline without transcoding and experience firsthand how editors can get great performance for demanding jobs like this one with the system that Adobe, HP, RED, and NVIDIA have put together. read more...
