Intel Core i9 is coming! We'll put it in DIY12!
Very exciting news out of Intel this past week. At its Computex event in Taipei, Intel unveiled its new Core X-series of processors. The debut of its latest high-end desktop CPUs wasn’t a surprise after plans were leaked earlier this month, but the series’ flagship model — the 18-core, 36-thread Intel i9-7980XE — still makes a very loud splash.
While it might all seem like overkill, Intel says its Core i9 lineup was driven by the surprising demand for last year's 10-core chip. "Broadwell-E was kind of an experiment," an Intel spokesperson told Engadget. "It sold ... proving that our enthusiast community will go after the best of the best... Yes, we're adding higher core count, but we're also introducing lower core counts. Scalability on both ends are what we went after."
We're going to look to put the Core i7-7820 8-core $599 version of the processor into our DIY12 build using an X99 chipset based motherboard. We'll also put together a higher performing build using the Core i9-7900X 10-core $999 processor going into an X299 chipset motherboard that supports i9 and Thunderbolt 3. Hopefully that will happen by early fall!
In the meantime, here are links to a bunch of Intel Core i9 X-series articles form around the web.

If 18 cores is a bit too rich for you, Intel also has other Core i9 Extreme Edition chips in 10-, 12-, 14- and 16-core variants. Perhaps the best news for hardware geeks: The 10 core i9-7900X will retail for $999, a significant discount from last year's version.

According to Gregory Bryant, the vice president and general manager of Intel's Client Computing Group "this is by far the most extreme desktop processor ever introduced." More than just offering extra cores, Intel is also unveiling the new x299 chipset "for even more I/O and overclocking capabilities", and it is updating Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, which will now identify the two top performing cores and direct critical workloads to those cores for a big jump in single - or multithreaded - performance.

Intel reveals its new 18-core, 36-thread “extreme” Core i9 processor at Computex

Priced at an eye-watering $1,999, the Intel i9-7980XE will remain aspirational for all but a handful of consumers, but it serves as Intel’s salvo in its ongoing processor battle with AMD. With 16-cores and 32-threads, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper, announced earlier this month, was supposed to be a contender for the world’s most powerful consumer CPU, but it looks like Intel has taken back the mantle for now.

Intel reveals its first 18 Cores processor for desktops.
As part of the Skylake-X family and created fo the X299 platform (socket LGA-2066), Intel Core i9-7980XE will bulldoze its competition represented by AMD Threadripper platform. This would offer “only” 16 processor cores with the Ryzen 9 1998X.
For those of you waiting for DIY12. Not sure if we are going to be doing DIY builds anymore. We’re putting our resources more into live streaming and production. In themeantime, great article posted on PVC https://www.provideocoalition.com/building-4k-video-editing-pc-2018/
