LiveU Helps BMG Take Golf Coverage Beyond the Limits of Fiber

Golf is one of the toughest sports to broadcast because the action stretches across an entire course. Broadcast Management Group tackled that challenge for The Pro Tour with a nearly wireless REMI workflow built around LiveU LU800 bonded cellular encoders and LiveU IQ intelligent connectivity.

Instead of keeping cameras tied to fixed fiber runs, operators could move around the course and follow the action. Live feeds, including drone footage, were transmitted back to BMG's Network Operations Center for remote production. The setup even enabled coverage of a hole at PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach that had reportedly never been televised because fixed fiber did not reach it.

That freedom also opened up new creative possibilities, including closer ground-level perspectives alongside traditional wide golf shots. BMG summarized the change simply: the production could follow the golf rather than the cables.

The result shows how LiveU technology can help remote sports productions cover more locations with a smaller on-site footprint while giving camera teams greater freedom to capture the action from new perspectives.
