HD-Connect LEConvergent Design, a leading developer of HDV and HDMI conversion products, announced today significant cost reductions on their HDV to HD/SD-SDI converters. HD-Connect SI, which does HDV to HD/SDI conversion with RS-422 deck control is now priced at US$795, while HD-Connect LE, which adds component as well as AES and LTC outputs, is now US$1095. The continuing growth of the HDV market along with reductions in manufacturing costs have allowed us to bring the price of these innovative converters down to the level of independent videograpers who need a cost-effective solution to ingest HDV into an NLE or output HD-SDI out of a native HDV editing system?, noted Mike Schell, President of Convergent Design. Both HD-Connect LE and HD-Connect SI perform real-time conversion of HDV (over 1394) to HD/SD-SDI with embedded audio and time-code. Compatible with all HDV camcorders and decks, these unique products support all HDV formats, including 1080i29.97/25, 1080pa30/25/24, 1080F24 and 720p60/50/30/25/24. A built-in cross/down converter provides multiple output options including 1080i59.94/50, 720p59.94/50 and 486i/576i (anamorphic, letterbox or edge-crop modes). Both products feature RS-422 to 1394 deck control translation which has been extensively tested on Avid, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Quantel and Media100 systems. This deck control translation allows offline / online batch capture to an NLE. HDV editors now have affordable tools to convert long-GOP compressed formats into easily editable I-Frame-based CODECs such as DVCProHD and DNxHD. These real-time conversions can eliminate all the headaches and long render times associated with native-format editing. Users no longer need to change their workflow: They just need to upgrade their connection. Additionally, tape dubs from HDV, to HDCAM, DVCProHD or DigiBeta entail only a single coax connection via the HD/SD-SDI cable that carries video, audio and time-code.
