Pro Sound Effects Launches Native SFX Panel for Avid Media Composer
Share
In this article by Kate Large for Red Shark News, Pro Sound Effects has introduced a native sound effects panel for Avid Media Composer, giving editors direct access to a massive library of over 1.2 million licensed sound effects without leaving the editing timeline. Built using Avid’s Media Composer Panel SDK, the integration is designed to streamline post-production workflows by removing the need to switch between external apps or browsers when searching for audio.

For editors and post-production teams working under tight deadlines, this new panel represents a significant efficiency boost. By keeping the entire sound effects workflow inside Media Composer, users can quickly audition, select, and import audio directly into their projects. This seamless integration supports fully licensed sound usage from early rough cuts through final picture lock, ensuring consistency and compliance throughout the editing process.
The panel also integrates with SoundQ, Pro Sound Effects’ free cross-platform desktop application. Through SoundQ, users can browse, search, and organize not only the PSE library but also their own internal sound effects collections. These assets can be stored locally, on shared networks, or in cloud-based systems such as Avid Nexis, and can be imported directly into Media Composer bins with full metadata preserved for easy organization and retrieval.
Another standout feature is the quality of the Pro Sound Effects library itself. It includes recordings from award-winning sound designers such as Mark Mangini, known for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road, Richard King, recognized for Dune: Part Two, and Chris Watson, famed for his nature recordings. This level of professional-grade content ensures that editors have access to high-quality audio suitable for everything from indie productions to major studio projects.

The Pro Sound Effects panel for Avid Media Composer is available now and is free for existing Pro Sound Effects customers. Users can access sounds through flexible purchasing options, including individual file purchases starting at $5 or subscription plans beginning at $29 per month per user. With this new integration, Pro Sound Effects is setting a new standard for how editors interact with sound libraries, making high-quality audio more accessible and workflows more efficient than ever before.
