RED RANGER adds Helium and Gemini sensors to mix
Keep things simple. And that is what Red has done with adding two new sensors to their Red Ranger cameras. Say goodbye to the modular RED DSM2 camera.
Resellers can finally get their hands on the Ranger Helium 8K S35 & Ranger Gemini 5K S35.
The two new alternatives now announced create a robust lineup, says RED, for creators who prefer an integrated, all-in-one system to the more modular RED DSMC2 camera. The cameras will be on display for the first time at IBC in the RED meeting room on the fourth floor of the Elicium at the RAI Amsterdam...

Red's announced that the Red Ranger Monstro 8K VV is made for high end productions. Thus it has been embraced by cinematographers. Yet it's only available from rental houses.
Despite there being three variants, all three versions of the Red Ranger are around the same weight (7.5 lbs). But that's all depending on the battery.
There are three SDI outputs letting two looks to be outputted at the same time, wide input voltage (11.5V to 32V), 24V & 12V powerouts, one 12V P-Tap, 5pin XLR audio, genlock, timecode, USB, and full control. It's also available with V-Lock and Gold Mount battery options. So this is built to handle high end configurations.
There are loads of ways to record too:
- Redcode RAW
- Apple ProRes
- Avid DNxHD / DNxHR
All up to 300 MB/s. Color is also not a problem using Red's end to end color management. This helps the image processing pipeline (IPP2).
And Red's given two lineups to let producers and content creators have more options creatively. Though there is still no denying that the DSMC2 ecosystem is the best at providing dynamic and modular cameras. In other words... letting you do just about anything. There is no denying that the Red Ranger is the best option for those proffering a simpler alternative.
Customer Feedback
In collaboration with rental houses to bring the RANGER MONSTRO to market, we have heard great feedback from customers, inspiring these two new variants... We’re excited to offer the RANGER line-up to a wider variety of professional productions and look forward to seeing the amazing images that are created.
