Small Workgroup Packages big hit among educators at NAB

Avid Blogs by Geaorge Kippel

Hi everyone and welcome to the education blog!

My name is George Klippel and I am the National Account Manager for Avid covering the educational market segment. I plan to use this space to talk about all things education and Avid. Topics I plan to cover include; Volume License Server, teaching Media Composer in curriculum, advantages of shared storage and collaborative workflow, student certification, unique product uses, pedagogical discussions and more…all with an education focus. I hope you will participate and ask questions. And if you have any ideas for a topic you’d like me to cover, please let know. Don’t forget to check out Avid for Education and our Avid for Students Facebook page to keep up with the latest happenings.

Today’s entry is about some interesting announcements that will be well received by educators from NAB 2013. Avid was everywhere at the show. We were in over 50 partner booths and made some major product announcements for both our Creative Tools and Media Management Solutions.

You can check out Rob D’Amico on Avid Blogs for deeper dives on features and functions on these products. It was a great show and full of excitement. One thing we didn’t promote as part of the major line up of announcements were two new Workgroup Solution Packages. These packages are essentially a bundle of products that support our new strategic vision, termed “Avid Everywhere,” which expresses the company’s commitment to create the most fluid end-to-end, distributed media production environment in the industry.

These packages were show favorites among all my education customers who came by the booth, and I feel these will be a huge hit for any school with Journalism and/or a radio/tv/film program and fit perfectly within an existing computer lab environment.

The basic package includes everything you need to turn your teaching lab into an end-to-end, distributed media production and collaborative workflow environment. It includes three Media Composer editors, 10 base connections, an ISIS 5000, 16TB shared storage system, our Interplay Production engine, all necessary professional services for installation and integration, and one year of ExpertPlus support with the hardware coverage option. That was mouthful…but you get a lot for the money. The price is just under $50,000. read more...
