Zacuto’s First Look at the Convergent Design Odyssey 7 & 7Q 4k Recorder

Zacuto

At NAB 2013, Convergent Design, makers of the Gemini 4:4:4 and nanoFlash to name a few, was demonstrating their new devices the Odyssey 7 and Odyssey 7Q, onboard 4k recorder with a display that has high-end monitor features. It was well received at NAB 2013 and even won a DV Black Diamond Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Advancement of Video Technology. Recently, Steve Weiss and Jens Bogehegn had the honor of sitting down with Dan Keaton, Sales and Marketing Director for Convergent Design, at Zacuto headquarters to talk about the features, prices and options for the Odyssey 7 and Odyssey 7Q. Check out the video below for more information.

The Odyssey devices are a professional 7.7” 1280×800 OLED monitor with high-end monitor features, including Waveform, Zebras, Histogram, Vectorscope, Focus Assist, False Color, Timecode Display and Audio Level Meters, and 1:1 Pixel mode. The Odyssey 7 and 7Q differ on their recording capabilities. The Odyssey 7Q has the ability to add options for recording with different camera formats including ARRIRAW, Canon C500 Raw, Sony FS700 Raw, Quad-Stream HD and more. You can purchase full-license, or simply RENT options on a daily basis. To see a complete comparison chart, click here. The Odyssey 7 is priced at $1295 and is due out in November 2013. The Odyssey 7Q is $2295 and is due out in August 2013.

Of course we couldn’t let Mr. Keaton leave without attaching the Odyssey to a camera rig. Steve, Jens and Patrick went to work and came up with a great way to attach the Odyssey onto a Sony FS700 rig using our Zwiss Plate. The Odyssey is attached to our Zwiss plate using a Zamerican Large Arm and the Zamerican Arm is attached to the Odyssey using a Zicromount III.
