Lacie Rugged Raid Shuttle and 2big RAID announced by Seagate
Two new external storage products for desktop use and a rugged portable in the LaCie 2big RAID and LaCie Rugged RAID Shuttle were announced by Seagate. Both products feature an internal RAID 0/1 providing faster speed and redundancy as well as USB-C USB 3.1. The 2big RAID is intended to be a static solution. Meanwhile the Rugged RAID Shuttle is designed for traveling and more rough conditions.
The LaCie Rugged RAID Shuttle features speeds up to 250 MB/s using Hardware-based RAID and IP54 dust and water resistance. It is also 1.2 meter drop and shock resistant. The Pro and Shuttle use separate Seagate Secure Hardware Encryption, which is the main difference. The Shuttle does not include an SD card reader.
The secure hardware Encryption use AES 256-bit encryption methods. It is completely transparent to the user. The encryption can be both password protected and used password free as well.
The raid shuttle drive units include an orange rubber surround encasing- which the LaCie brand is now somewhat known for. These bands make these solutions drop and shock resistant.
On the other hand, the Lacie 2big RAID is designed as an external desktop solution. The device operates at speeds up to 440 MB/S and supports both RAID 0 and RAID 1. Both the 2Big RAID and the RAID shuttle are compatible with the LaCie Toolkit software. The 2Big RAID also includes two IronWolf Pro Enterprise-class HDDs.
The 8TB LaCie Rugged RAID Shuttle and 2Big RAID are available now from LaCie.
