The LiveU Solo Pro's headline feature is cellular bonding β but "bonding" is one of those terms that gets used without much explanation. Here's exactly what it means, how LiveU's LRT technology works, and why it matters for live streaming reliability.

The Problem Cellular Bonding Solves
A single cellular connection β one phone, one SIM card, one carrier β is unreliable for live streaming. Data speeds fluctuate. Towers get congested. Coverage drops in certain areas. When your stream depends on a single connection, any dip in performance shows up immediately as buffering, pixelation, or a dropped stream.
The solution: don't rely on one connection. Use several simultaneously.
How LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) Works
LRT is LiveU's cellular bonding protocol. The Solo Pro supports up to six simultaneous IP connections:
- Up to 4 USB modems (each with their own SIM card and data plan)
- Wi-Fi
- Ethernet
When you start a stream, LRT splits your video data across all active connections at the same time. Each connection carries a portion of the video data independently β think of it like splitting a highway into multiple lanes.
That split data travels from each connection up to the LiveU cloud, where it's reassembled in the correct order and stitched back together into a single, complete video stream. From the cloud, it's delivered to your destination β YouTube, Facebook, an SRT receiver, wherever you're streaming.
The result: If any individual connection drops or slows down, the other connections compensate. Your viewers don't see the hiccup because the cloud is managing the reassembly in real time.
Automatic Tower Switching
LRT constantly monitors the quality of every active connection. If a cellular modem loses signal from one tower, LRT automatically switches to the next available tower β without interrupting the stream.
This is particularly valuable for:
- Moving productions β driving in a vehicle while streaming, walking through a venue
- Crowd-congested events β cell towers in areas with thousands of people can become overloaded; LRT routes around congested towers automatically
- Long outdoor events β a sporting event that lasts several hours will experience natural fluctuations in signal quality; LRT handles this without operator intervention
Unlimited Data, No Throttling
The Solo Connect data plan that activates the Solo Pro's cellular bonding includes:
Unlimited data β stream for as long as you need. LiveU won't cut you off or warn you about data limits mid-broadcast.
No throttling β many cellular carriers reduce speeds once you've used a certain amount of data in a month. LiveU's Solo Connect plan does not throttle. Your upload speed at the end of the month is the same as at the beginning.
For productions that run for hours or happen multiple times per month β weekly church services, recurring sports coverage, regular field reporting β this is a meaningful difference from carrier-managed SIM cards.
HDMI vs SDI Model β One Input at a Time
One important technical note: the Solo Pro HDMI+SDI model has both connection types but is not a switcher. Only one input can be active at a time β either HDMI or SDI, not both simultaneously. For multi-camera productions, the Solo Pro receives the switched program output from your switcher.
Solo Pro as a Standalone Encoder
Even without cellular modems, theΒ LiveU Solo Pro functions as a standalone encoder via Wi-Fi or Ethernet β useful when you have reliable internet access, but your camera lacks built-in streaming capability. Connect camera β connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet β stream. The modem kits add the cellular bonding layer on top of this baseline capability.
