Convert 4K HDMI Video to Professional SDI

The AJA HA5-4K makes it possible to use HDMI-equipped cameras and video sources in professional SDI production environments. Many DSLR, mirrorless, action, and prosumer video cameras provide HDMI output, while broadcast switchers, monitors, and other professional equipment commonly use SDI connections.

By converting HDMI video to four 3G-SDI outputs, the HA5-4K helps bridge these connection types for 4K and UltraHD workflows. It supports full-resolution 4K at 4096 × 2160 and UltraHD at 3840 × 2160, with frame rates up to 50/60 fps.

Flexible 4K and UltraHD Output Mapping

The HA5-4K supports Two Sample Interleave (2SI) and Square Division (Quadrant) output pixel mapping to accommodate different professional 4K workflows. It also supports HDMI input formats with 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0 chroma sampling, providing flexibility for a range of video sources and production requirements.

When working with HD rather than 4K, the converter automatically detects an incoming HD HDMI signal and converts it to a single 3G-SDI output.

HDR Metadata Support

The AJA HA5-4K can analyze HDR InfoFrame data received over HDMI when used with AJA Mini-Config software. It also supports HDR metadata VPID pass-through with an optional override, helping accommodate HDR requirements in professional video workflows.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) video can deliver brighter highlights, deeper blacks, and a wider range of colors than Standard Dynamic Range (SDR). These capabilities help production teams work with compatible HDR sources and downstream equipment.

Embedded Audio and Frame Rate Conversion

The HA5-4K supports embedded audio alongside video conversion, helping maintain synchronized audio and video in professional workflows. It also supports pass-through of compatible compressed audio formats, including AC-3 (Dolby Digital) and E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus), including DD+ Atmos.

Simple frame rate conversion supports workflows that require conversion between fractional and integer frame rates.

Compact and Portable Mini-Converter Design

The HA5-4K features a compact, low-profile enclosure designed for professional production environments. Its small footprint makes it easy to place behind monitors, inside equipment racks, in mobile production trucks, or on camera rigs.
