The AJA KONA 5 is a high-performance, 8-lane PCIe 3.0 video and audio I/O card designed for demanding broadcast, post-production, live production, and 8K workflows. Supporting video formats from SD and HD through 4K, UltraHD, 8K, and UltraHD2, KONA 5 delivers flexible connectivity with four bidirectional 12G-SDI connections and HDMI 2.0 output.

This version uses ATX power and does not include a power cable. It supports high-frame-rate (HFR) video, deep color, and advanced HDR workflows, making it a versatile solution for professional video capture, monitoring, and output.

Professional 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 Connectivity

KONA 5 provides four bidirectional 12G-SDI connections for flexible video capture, output, and pass-through configurations. The connections support a range of professional formats, including 8K/UltraHD2 using four 12G-SDI connections and 4K/UltraHD workflows using supported SDI configurations.

The full-size HDMI 2.0 connection supports monitoring and output with HDR, deep color, and high-frame-rate capabilities. These connections make KONA 5 suitable for broadcast facilities, video post-production, live compositing, graphics, and virtual production environments.

Advanced HDR and Deep Color Workflows

KONA 5 supports professional HDR workflows using HDR10, HLG, PQ, and Dolby Vision, depending on the application and configuration. It supports 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 and 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 workflows, helping professionals maintain image quality throughout capture, monitoring, and output.

With AJA Control Room and AJA Control Panel, users can access HDR tools, including metadata capture and playback detection for supported workflows.

8K Capture, Playback, and Production

Designed for high-resolution production, KONA 5 enables 8K capture and playback workflows on compatible Windows, macOS, and Linux systems. It supports 8K workflows in applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer, subject to current software, driver, and system compatibility.

Dynamic FPGA firmware reconfiguration allows users to switch between supported 8K and 4K-and-below operating modes without a full system reboot.

Broad Software and System Compatibility

KONA 5 works with AJA Desktop Software, including AJA Control Room and AJA Control Panel, and supports a broad range of professional video applications. Compatible workflows include editing, live production, multi-channel capture, streaming, and custom OEM applications using the AJA SDK.

Included Connectivity and Power Requirements

This ATX-powered version of the AJA KONA 5 is supplied without a power cable. Confirm your host system's power requirements and obtain a compatible cable separately if needed.

KONA 5 also includes a breakout cable for supported auxiliary connections, including:

• RS-422 machine control
• LTC input and output

The card also provides a reference input for external synchronization using analog black burst or tri-level sync.
