The AJA KONA IP25 is an 8-lane PCIe 4.0 SMPTE ST 2110 IP I/O card designed for uncompressed professional video, audio, and ancillary data workflows over IP networks. It supports bidirectional SMPTE ST 2110 video I/O with dual SFP cages supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 25 Gigabit Ethernet, plus a 1 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 connection for control.

KONA IP25 supports uncompressed video up to 4K/UltraHD 59.94/60, 16 channels of audio, ancillary data, PTPv2 timing, NMOS control, and ST 2022-7 hitless redundancy. It provides a direct path from traditional KONA-based workflows to modern IP production environments while maintaining compatibility with leading creative and editing applications on macOS, Windows, and Linux.

SMPTE ST 2110 Uncompressed IP Video I/O

The KONA IP25 brings the familiar AJA KONA workflow into professional SMPTE ST 2110 IP environments. It provides bidirectional uncompressed video I/O for systems that need to move high-resolution video, audio, and ancillary data over an IP network.

The card supports the SMPTE ST 2110 family, including:

• ST 2110-10: System timing
• ST 2110-20: Uncompressed active video
• ST 2110-21: Traffic shaping for uncompressed video
• ST 2110-30: PCM audio
• ST 2110-40: Ancillary data

KONA IP25 also supports SMPTE ST 2022-7 for receive and transmit paths, providing hitless redundancy through the dual 25GbE network connections.

4K and UltraHD Video Over 25GbE

KONA IP25 is designed for high-bandwidth IP production workflows, supporting multiple uncompressed SMPTE ST 2110 video streams up to 4K and UltraHD 59.94/60.

PTP Timing and NMOS Control

KONA IP25 provides onboard support for the timing, discovery, and control functions required in modern ST 2110 environments.

PTPv2 / ST 2059-2 provides precision timing through the media network, while NMOS supports discovery, registration, and connection management through IS-04 and IS-05.

ST 2110 configuration and control can be handled independently of the host computer through the KONA IP25. Control is available through either:

• In-band control through the SFP media network
• Out-of-band control through the 1GbE RJ-45 connection

This allows KONA IP25 to handle ST 2110 configuration and control without placing the processing burden on the host PC.

ST 2022-7 Hitless Redundancy

KONA IP25 supports SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundancy for both receive and transmit workflows. Using the dual 25GbE SFP network connections, production systems can maintain media availability through redundant network paths.

This makes the card well suited for critical broadcast ingest, playout, production, and other applications where network resilience is important.

Professional Editing and Production Software Support

KONA IP25 works with AJA drivers and application plug-ins to support professional creative and production applications. Supported workflows include:

Audio and Ancillary Data

KONA IP25 supports SMPTE ST 2110-30 PCM audio and ST 2110-40 ancillary data alongside uncompressed video.

The card supports up to 16 receive and 16 transmit audio channels, with up to four audio streams per video stream. It supports up to 16 audio channels per ST 2110-30 stream using 1ms and 125µs timing.

SDR and HDR Workflow Support

KONA IP25 supports both SDR and HDR workflows. Transfer characteristics, colorimetry, and luminance information can be defined through the SDP file for compatible production and editing environments.

AJA Desktop Software also provides HDR support across compatible professional applications, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer.

AJA Software and Developer SDK

KONA IP25 uses the same AJA SDK architecture as AJA's baseband KONA I/O cards, providing developers with a familiar platform for building applications and systems for SMPTE ST 2110 workflows.

AJA provides SDK development options for Windows, macOS, and Linux, including support for Apple silicon. Developers can use the AJA Open Source Developer path or access additional proprietary technologies and support through the AJA Developer Program.

Apple Silicon and macOS Support

AJA Desktop Software provides native support for Apple silicon, including AJA macOS drivers, application plug-ins, AJA Control Room, AJA Control Panel, and AJA System Test.

KONA IP25 is also compatible with current Apple Mac systems, including Mac Pro configurations used for high-resolution professional video workflows.

Network Connectivity

KONA IP25 features two SFP cages supporting 10 GigE or 25 GigE SFPs for media networking. SFPs are sold separately.

The card also includes a 1GbE RJ-45 connection for out-of-band control and network communication.

The 25GbE interfaces support FEC 74 and FEC 108, providing additional flexibility for compatible high-speed IP network infrastructure.
