The AJA KUMO 1616-12G is a compact 16x16 12G-SDI router designed for professional broadcast, production, post-production, mobile truck, and live event environments. With 16 12G-SDI inputs and 16 12G-SDI outputs, KUMO 1616-12G provides flexible signal routing for cameras, monitors, editing systems, tape decks, file-based recorders, and other SDI equipment. It supports 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and 1.5G-SDI signals in a space-saving 1RU chassis.

Powerful 12G-SDI Signal Routing

KUMO 1616-12G provides a flexible crosspoint routing matrix that allows any input to be routed to any number of outputs without requiring additional patch panels or distribution amplifiers. A single SDI input can also be routed to all outputs, allowing the KUMO 1616-12G to function as a distribution amplifier for multiple destinations.

The router supports single-link 12G-SDI for 4K/UltraHD, while ganged dual-link and quad-link configurations enable routing for higher-resolution workflows including 8K/UltraHD2.

Compact 1RU SDI Router

Designed for installations where space and capacity matter, the KUMO 1616-12G combines 16x16 SDI routing with a compact 1RU chassis. Its small form factor makes it suitable for broadcast facilities, mobile production trucks, post-production facilities, edit suites, corporate video installations, and live event systems.

KUMO routers support full broadcast specifications across 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI, providing flexible connectivity as production systems evolve.

4K and 8K Routing

KUMO 1616-12G is designed for modern high-resolution video workflows. Its 12G-SDI connectivity provides single-cable 4K/UltraHD routing, reducing cable requirements compared with lower-bandwidth SDI configurations.

For larger-format workflows, users can configure ganged dual-link or quad-link routing to group multiple inputs and outputs for 8K/UltraHD2 signal transport throughout a production environment.

Remote Network Control

KUMO 1616-12G includes an embedded web server for network-based control and monitoring. Once connected to a network, operators can access the router through a web browser to configure sources and destinations, select crosspoints, execute salvos, and manage router settings.

The router also supports Grass Valley Native Protocol over RS-422 or Ethernet for integration with existing control infrastructure.

KUMO Presets and Salvos

KUMO 1616-12G can store configurations in up to 20 preset slots, allowing operators to save and recall router settings. Presets can include switching modes, crosspoint maps, source and destination button settings, and salvo configurations.

Salvos allow operators to recall predefined groups of routes at the push of a button. Up to eight salvos can be stored and recalled through the KUMO web interface, GVG Native Protocol over Ethernet, RS-422, or an optional KUMO CP2 control panel.

Easy Installation and Configuration

KUMO 1616-12G runs embedded Linux and provides network-based HTTP control through a standard web browser without requiring additional software. Its USB port supports IP configuration through the supplied AJA eMini-Setup software for Mac and PC.

Network configuration can also use Bonjour/Zeroconf auto-detection, allowing the router to configure automatically when connected to a compatible network or computer.

Optional KUMO CP2 and KUMO CP Control Panels

The optional AJA KUMO CP and KUMO CP2 control panels provide dedicated hardware control of KUMO routers over Ethernet. A single control panel can control up to four KUMO routers, while a single router can be controlled by up to 32 control panels.

This provides flexible control options for production facilities where operators need dedicated physical access to SDI routing without relying exclusively on a computer.

Reliable Broadcast Signal Management

KUMO routers are designed for critical broadcast, production, and post-production environments. The KUMO 1616-12G provides professional signal routing in a compact chassis while supporting high-resolution SDI workflows.
