The AJA ROI-HDMI is an HDMI to 3G-SDI scan converter designed to integrate computer and HDMI sources into professional SDI video workflows. It combines high-quality scaling, aspect ratio conversion, frame rate conversion, and Region of Interest (ROI) scaling in a compact Mini-Converter.

ROI-HDMI supports SD, HD, and 3G-SDI formats, provides HDMI loop-through, and accepts DVI computer signals up to 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. It also supports embedded HDMI audio and balanced analog audio, allowing computer and presentation audio to be embedded directly into the SDI output.

HDMI to 3G-SDI Scan Conversion

The AJA ROI-HDMI converts computer and HDMI sources into professional 3G-SDI video, making it easier to incorporate presentation systems, computers, graphics, and other HDMI sources into SDI production environments.

The converter supports SD, HD, and 3G formats and provides up, down, and cross-conversion for flexible integration with different video systems.

An HDMI loop-through connection allows the original HDMI signal to continue to an external display while the ROI-HDMI converts the source to SDI.

Region of Interest Scaling

The defining feature of ROI-HDMI is its Region of Interest scaling. Instead of converting an entire computer screen, users can select a specific portion of the incoming image and scale that area to the desired SDI output resolution.

Using AJA Mini-Config software, users can interactively select the Region of Interest and control how it is scaled. This makes it possible to remove unwanted interface elements, menu bars, or other portions of a computer display while maintaining high image quality.

ROI scaling is useful for presentations, digital signage, live events, broadcast graphics, video walls, and other applications where only a specific portion of a computer or HDMI source needs to be displayed.

Video Wall and Multi-Display Applications

ROI-HDMI can be used to create synchronized multi-display and video wall systems. Multiple ROI-HDMI Mini-Converters can each extract a different Region of Interest from the same source and output the selected area over SDI.

For example, multiple ROI-HDMI units can be used to divide a source across several portrait-oriented displays or create larger synchronized video walls. A single HD source can be distributed through a compatible router to multiple ROI-HDMI converters, with each converter providing a different portion of the source image to its connected display.

Aspect Ratio and Frame Rate Conversion

ROI-HDMI provides extensive control over aspect ratio and frame rate conversion. AJA Mini-Config software provides on-screen controls that show the source and output formats, helping users configure the desired conversion.

The converter supports up, down, and cross-conversion as well as conversion between interlaced and progressive video signals.

Users can also flip the image horizontally or vertically and rotate the image 90 degrees, providing additional flexibility for display and production applications.

HDMI Loop-Through and Genlock

ROI-HDMI uses direct HDMI loop-through, allowing the converter to be placed inline while maintaining a connection to an external HDMI display.

A reference input provides genlock capability, allowing the SDI output to be synchronized for use within a professional production or facility environment. ROI-HDMI can also use the HDMI input or operate in free-run mode for timing.

Audio Embedding

ROI-HDMI supports multiple audio input options. It can accept two channels of balanced analog audio through its analog input or up to eight channels of embedded HDMI audio.

Audio source selection and routing are configured through AJA Mini-Config software. The selected audio is embedded into the SDI output, allowing computer or presentation audio to remain synchronized with the converted video signal.

EDID Emulation

EDID emulation helps ROI-HDMI communicate supported display characteristics to an HDMI or computer source. This can help ensure that the connected computer outputs an appropriate resolution and format for the video conversion workflow.

Mini-Config Software

ROI-HDMI connects to a computer through USB for configuration using AJA Mini-Config software on PC or Mac.

Mini-Config provides control over video conversion, Region of Interest selection, scaling, aspect ratio, frame rate, audio routing, and other configuration settings.

Compact and Portable Mini-Converter

The ROI-HDMI uses AJA's compact Mini-Converter design, making it suitable for installations where space is limited. It can fit behind a monitor, inside a rack, in a mobile production truck, or directly on a production setup.

A locking power connector helps prevent accidental disconnection, while an optional P-TAP power cable can provide battery power for remote applications.
