BorisFX: Apple Final Cut Pro X Support
Hundreds of thousands of Apple Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express customers rely on Boris FX text, visual effects, compositing, and workflow tools on a daily basis. As we announced at NAB 2011, we fully intend to support the newly-released Apple Final Cut Pro X to the maximum extent possible.
It is important to note that Final Cut Pro X is not an upgrade to Final Cut Pro. It is an all-new 64-bit software application built from the ground up; basically, Final Cut Pro v7 is the last version of Final Cut Pro, and it has been replaced by Final Cut Pro X, a new video editing software application. Given the massive installed base of Final Cut Pro users, Apple designed Final Cut Pro X so that it could be run side-by-side with Final Cut Pro v7. If you have purchased or are planning on purchasing Final Cut Pro X, then for uninterrupted compatibility with Boris FX and other third-party visual effects plug-ins, you must continue running Final Cut Pro v7.
Boris Continuum Complete FxPlug, the Boris Continuum Units, and Final Effects Complete FxPlug support Apple Final Cut Pro v7 via Apple’s FxPlug architecture. The FxPlug architecture has served as Apple’s recommended visual effects plug-in architecture since the release of Final Cut Pro v5.1.2. Therefore, the vast majority of third-party Final Cut Pro VFX plug-ins integrate with Final Cut Pro via the FxPlug architecture. As of this writing, the FxPlug architecture is not present in Final Cut Pro X, but an upgraded version of FxPlug – FxPlug 2 – is available as part of Apple Motion v5. Motion v5 introduces a new method of implementing FxPlug plug-ins in Motion Templates which can then be published to Final Cut Pro X. We are working closely with Apple to ensure the fastest possible migration of our FxPlug plug-ins to the new FxPlug 2 architecture.
Boris RED, Boris FX, and Boris Graffiti integrate with Final Cut Pro v7 via a private plug-in interface co-developed by Apple and Boris FX. We are working closely with Apple to port Boris RED, Boris FX, and Boris Graffiti to the FxPlug 2 architecture.
Boris Transfer FCP is a set of two Final Cut Pro plug-ins for transferring sequences between Final Cut Pro and Avid video editing and finishing systems. One of the plug-ins exports Avid-compatible AAF format files from Final Cut Pro to Avid. The other plug-in imports AAF format files from Avid to Final Cut Pro. As of this writing, Final Cut Pro X does not offer the ability to import or export AAF files. We are actively evaluating Final Cut Pro X and we are strongly committed to facilitating transfer of program sequences and Boris Continuum Complete effects between industry-leading video editing software applications. Boris Transfer FCP remains compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro v7 and v6.
Boris Transfer AE is an Adobe After Effects plug-in designed for seamless transfer of Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro program sequences to Adobe After Effects. The transfer of Final Cut Pro sequences to After Effects is accomplished via export of XML format files from Final Cut Pro. As of this writing, Final Cut Pro X does not support export of XML format files. We are actively evaluating Final Cut Pro X and we are strongly committed to facilitating transfer of program sequences and Boris Continuum Complete effects from industry-leading video editing software applications to Adobe After Effects. Boris Transfer AE remains compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro v7 and v6.
Customers who buy Boris Continuum Complete FxPlug, a Continuum Unit, Final Effects Complete FxPlug, Boris RED, Boris FX, or Graffiti as of June 21, 2011 will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to an FxPlug 2-compatible version of the plug-in when an FxPlug 2-compatible version of the plug-in is released.
Boris FX has developed VFX plug-ins since 1995 and we have a long, storied history of rapidly supporting new host applications, operating systems, and hardware platforms. We remain fully committed to the hundreds of thousands of Final Cut Pro editors that use Boris products each and every day.
