Check out These Excellent Workstations for Video Content Creators!

With so many options for video post production professionals when it comes to NLE’s, a lot of this decision comes down to the workstation. True professionals need a system that supports their workflow.

Postmagazine.com created an excellent article breaking down some great post production workstations. We're taking a look at some of the workstations they've selected, below.

Apple

Apples new iMac features a compact design running off of Apple's M1 chip.  The iMac is just 11.5 millimeters in thickness (or thinness), and is an absolute power house.

It's incredibly bright with a 4.5K retina display and 113 million pixels at 500 nits.  And display isn't it's only strength.

"The workstation has the ability to edit up to five streams of 4K footage, or one stream of 8K footage, without dropping a frame in Final Cut Pro. Complementing the 1080p camera is a three-microphone array that helps with clearer calls and voice recordings. The mics are positioned to reduce feedback from the rest of the system, while directional beamforming allows them to better ignore background noise and focus on a user’s voice."

Boxx Technologies:

Boxx Technologies specializes in high performance desktop work stations.  These are true rendering systems introduced with the Apexx Everest this year in March.

These workstations support up to 128 PCle lanes and high level multi processing power that comes in handy when editing 3D scenes and footage.

And when it comes to GPUs, these devices are power houses.

"The Boxx workstation also supports up to four professional-grade GPUs: AMD Radeon Pro or Nvidia RTX (including Ampere, Nvidia’s 2nd generation RTX architecture). Additional features include multiple hard drive options, up to 2TB of system memory and IPMI for remote system management. The Apexx Everest is highly configurable and delivers a high level of performance for multi-threaded applications, such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya and Revit, as well as Avid, Adobe CC, DaVinci Resolve, Cinema 4D and V-Ray."

Dell:

Dell recently saw an update to their towers and mobile workstations that some have described as "more than a mid life bump".  For starters, the mobile line features new interiors as well as updated CPUs and GPUs.  Simultaneously, the Precision 3650 desk side workstation is one of dells most exciting releases.  It's a mini tower and it marks Dells status as the first to support PCle generation 4 graphics which means high performance and increased bandwidth for 6K or 8K workflows.
