When major companies like Apple and RED Digital Cinema work together to improve user experience, it is always major industry news. RED and Apple have completed the METAL GPU accelerated R3D support.
This support feature will be integrated into the next major release of FCPX. SDK went out to DaVinci Resolve earlier in the week. This integration will also be supported in Avid. However, Premiere Pro users will have to wait for the companies to release support for their NLE.
“Apple’s new hardware will bring a mind-blowing level of performance to Metal-accelerated, proxy-free R3D workflows in Final Cut Pro X that editors truly have never seen before. We are very excited to bring a Metal-optimized version of R3D.”Jarred Land, President, RED Digital Cinema
